Being an effective leader today means having the ability to deal with increasing complexity and navigate the ‘grey’. A recent Adeption Insights report shows 62% of leadership challenges stem from complexity, ambiguity, and time constraints.
To reflect the growing importance of adaptive leadership as an everyday practice, we’re thrilled to announce Adeption’s flagship assessment, the Vertical Mindset Indicator (VMI), is now called the Leadership Mindset Indicator (LMI) and comes with a refreshed report.
Flexibility is a critical leadership trait
Adeption co-founder and CEO, Carl Sanders-Edwards, says the new LMI name and report emphasize the purpose of mindset development is effective leadership — which demands flexibility — rather than a race to the top of the mindset ladder.
“We’re seeing strong evidence that leaders who can ‘see’ challenges through a wider range of perspectives are able to access more possibilities, and are considerably more effective than those who have a fixed way of thinking. This is more important than simply having later mindsets,” explains Carl.
“In fact, we’ve discovered from years of working with this assessment that most people have a lot more mindset range (flex) than previous research assumed. Simply making leaders aware of their ability to flex leads to them trying out new ways of thinking and responding to challenges. This ultimately gets them better results, and they grow their leadership capacity in the process”.
The new LMI report gives leaders a clearer picture of their mindset range by displaying their core Center of Gravity mindset alongside up to two Secondary Mindsets. The report also provides guidance for developing and flexing between different mindsets.
What’s changing and how to access support
All Adeption experiences (including client experiences) that integrate or reference the VMI will be updated to reflect the new name and report, including small shifts in language.
VMI Certification is now called LMI Certification, and the [VMI] Team Mindset Explorer is now Team Mindset Explorer.
